Omar Salgado says he is looking to force his way into the Vancouver Whitecaps first team despite being linked with a loan move.

The 18-year old 2011 MLS SuperDraft number one pick could be on his way to NASL club Carolina RailHawks according to some reports but he insists he is looking to stay with the Whitecaps and fight for his spot.

"Right now, I'm concentrating on playing here and making the 18 and hopefully getting some playing time," he told the Vancouver Sun after missing out on the first two squads of the MLS season.

"I want to make the 18 and make the trips.

"It's about having a little more patience and being calm and working hard and waiting for the opportunity. I really can't do anything else than wait for it."

Whitecaps head coach Martin Rennie is toying with the idea of sending Salgado to his former club and the youngster will abide by his boss' rules if he does happen to join the RailHawks for a few months or so.

"If he thinks a loan is better for me, then so be it and I'll go with that," he added. "But so far, it's really just about being here and hopefully getting that playing time with the Whitecaps."
