Sakho injury leaves Liverpool with two eligible centre-backs

Mamadou Sakho's injury on Wednesday night has left Liverpool with just a pair of available central defenders.

The 25-year old Frenchman limped off prior to the half-hour mark in the Reds' 1-0 FA Cup quarter-final win over Blackburn Rovers which has manager Brendan Rodgers reeling in the defensive department.

Sakho injured his hamstring at Ewood Park which leaves just Kolo Toure and Dejan Lovren as centre-back options while Martin Skrtel and the versatile Emre Can serve three-match suspensions.

Rodgers reverted to a four-man defence for the win over Rovers and is likely to adopt a similar approach at home against Newcastle United on Monday night but will be hoping Toure or Lovren can avoid injury as they look to bounce back from a two-game losing streak in the league.
