Sagnol backs France coach Deschamps after snubbing Man City defender Laporte

Willy Sagnol can understand France coach Didier Deschamps ignoring Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte.

The former France U21 coach has questioned Laporte's commitment to Les Bleus.

Sagnol said: "I think we have to stop at some point to talk about some players. I understand Deschamps. When you have a player who for two years makes music by saying 'I choose France, Spain, France, Spain', at one point you say 'listen, if the blue jersey does not interest you my child, go elsewhere'.

"I have never felt a real desire on his part really deep to wear the blue jersey. I think he wants to play in a national team because it's prestigious, because you can win titles. But a love for the blue jersey, I did not feel it.

"After he has been a lot in Spain in his life, so I understand that he is also interested in Spain. But at some point you have to choose and get serious a little. Do not think 'the first one who calls me, I'm going' because it does not work that way.

"The blue jersey represents something. Either you give it everything, or you give it nothing. But if you do not want to give everything to it, you do not mess it around."
