SAF accepts Man Utd defeat as price for blooding youngsters

Manchester United had already guaranteed their place as Group H winners so boss Sir Alex Ferguson made extensive changes to the side as they went down 1-0 at Old Trafford to Romanian champions Cluj. The United chief was philosophical with the defeat, reasoning the experience to the younger players and those returning from injury was invaluable.

"It was a fantastic goal they scored to beat us, but overall they didn't cause us too many problems.

"There were half chances and some good balls into the box but I was satisfied because we had some youngsters who got experience and others got game time. That was the intention and we did the same against Galatasaray.

"We achieved what we wanted to achieve without getting the result."
