Mimmo di Carlo is sorry to see Sampdoria relegated.

Di Carlo was sacked on March 7 to make way for Alberto Cavasin, who has become a hate figure for some of the Sampdoria supporters following relegation.

He said: "It's a terrible shame. Sampdoria are a very prestigious club and I'm convinced things will go back to normal.

"It's important for the owners to secure an immediate promotion next season, just like Atalanta and Siena. The extraordinary fans can make the difference."
