Russian FA eyeing Advocaat

The Russian Football Association have reportedly installed Dick Advocaat as the new national team coach, replacing fellow Dutchman Guus Hiddink.

Although the announcement has not yet been made official, Sport-Express reported that the current Belgium coach would become coach of Russia very soon.

New Russian FA president Sergei Fursenko has a close relationship with Advocaat after they worked together when Fursenko was president and Advocaat manager of Zenit St Petersburg.

Hiddink is still in charge of the Russian team with his contract expiring on July 15 but he said if they did not qualify for the World Cup, he would relinquish his position.

Along with the Belgian national team, Advocaat is also in charge of Dutch Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar until the end of May.
