Media magnate Rupert Murdoch has plans for a summer European tournament featuring the game's biggest clubs.

The Observer says Murdoch is planning a tournament to start in 2015 which would see Europe's elite compete in cities all over the planet from Los Angeles to Shanghai.

Leading clubs from England and across the continent regularly embark on money-spinning end-of-season tours and it is thought Murdoch is hoping to capitalise on the will to travel to earn as he looks to steal a march on NBC.

Chelsea and Manchester City recently played two friendlies in the States as they look to spread their brand overseas to compete with established powers such as Manchester United and Barcelona.
