Rukavytsya focused on Hertha before Socceroos WC adventure

Nikita Rukavytsya says he is solely focused on helping Hertha Berlin avoid relegation from the German Bundesliga.

The 24-year old Australian attacker has had his best season in Europe to date, making 24 appearances for Hertha, who are preparing for a relegation/promotion battle with second tier club Fortuna Dusseldorf.

With his performances recently, Rukavtysya has been receiving some very positive press in Germany and could be a key part of the Socceroos' World Cup qualifying adventure under Holger Osieck but he insists club duties are at the forefront of his mind at the moment.

"When it comes to the Socceroos, it's always the case that you have to be doing well for your club to be a chance of being picked and hopefully I've been doing that," he told The World Game.

"I've just got to keep working hard and see what happens. I've been involved with the national team for a while now. I was at the World Cup, I played at the Olympic Games for the Under-23s and I feel I am ready if and when the call comes again.

"As a player, I am growing and learning a lot each week. I know I have to improve in certain areas and I'm accomplishing that bit by bit. I feel I'm a different player to what I was a year ago.

"It's the most amazing feeling you can have as a player (playing at a World Cup) and now that I've tasted it I'm eager for more.

"But that's not what I'm focusing on right now. The first priority is to do my best to help Hertha stay up."
