Rugby Union star Cipriani won’t join MLS

English Rugby Union star Danny Cipriani will not be joining Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids.

The 22-year old, who is set to join new Australian club the Melbourne Rebels, has been training with the Rapids in between seasons and was believed to be impressing people at the club but it was simply to stay in shape after a friend invited him to train with the squad.

Cipriani also had training runs with English clubs Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers and was being linked with a move from Union into soccer but his publicist says there is nothing in it.

“He’s just over there doing some altitude training. Everyone is putting two and two together and making ten,” Carolina McAteer told the Daily Mail.

“He’s in regular contact with the Melbourne Rebels coaches and he’s going out there by early October ready for pre-season training, which starts in November.

“He spent two weeks with Spurs, two weeks with QPR and an English guy he knows who coaches the team in Colorado (Gary Smith) invited him to join them for training, she he thought he would go.

“He’ll be out there for a week or so, then he’s coming back here (London) for a few weeks before going to Australia.”
