Roxburgh: We are seeing a Man Utd trait at NYRB

New York Red Bulls sporting director Andy Roxburgh feels that the club has begun a sort of Manchester United-type mindset in recent times.

The Red Bulls, who fell to second on the Eastern Conference table following the weekend's 2-0 loss to Columbus Crew, have produced fighting victories in the past few weeks which leads Roxburgh to believe that they have a resilient nature similar to that of the Premier League champions and Vince Lombardi's NFL teams of the 1950s and 1960s.

"We're beginning to see a Manchester United trait here," said Roxburgh in the wake of last weekend's 3-2 triumph over Sporting Kansas City and the week prior's 4-3 win over Real Salt Lake.

"It's Sir Alex Ferguson's line, I think he stole it from (former Green Bay Packer coach) Vince Lombardi. Lombardi's line was we never lose: We just run out of time. And that mentality is carrying over here.

"You just keep going and we've proved it in a number of games, won them at the end, saved them at the end. That's a great characteristic to have in a team, so we're very happy with it."
