Rotherham United boss Steve Evans has scoffed at claims they are about to sign Joey Barton.

Barton, who saw a move this month to West Ham United collapse, is a free agent after coming off contract at QPR.

"I don't think we could afford Joey's petrol, never mind Joey," Evans told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"Our problem would be funding Joey's Ferrari or whatever he's driving to Rotherham from where he lives.

"I think he's an outstanding footballer - when I saw West Ham linked with him I thought he'd be signing.

"If Joey Barton wants to come play for Rotherham United, give me a ring, Joey."
