Palermo coach Delio Rossi says they can be proud of their fifth place finish this season.

The Sicilians faced a battle to the end for a Champions League spot, but Sampdoria scraped through thanks to a 1-0 win over Napoli.

"Time will tell what it is we have achieved," commented Coach Rossi after a 2-1 victory against Atalanta.

"Right now there is a touch of disappointment that we were unable to make the dream come true, but the fans should be proud of these lads.

"We also praise Atalanta for the gritty performance they put in today, really honouring the club jersey. I hoped it would be a celebration for both teams here, but it proved to be neither.

"We must take this season as a stepping stone and begin in the Europa League, always improving and strengthening the squad."
