Ross County playing in Europe not a done deal

Ross County are not guaranteed to be playing European football next season as first thought. The Scottish First Division side were believed to be on their way into the Europa League after reaching the Scottish Cup final.

However, the Scottish Football Association has sought to clarify the situation.

If opponents Dundee United finish third and win the cup, it will be the fifth-placed side in the SPL, currently Motherwell, who will be handed a European berth.

There is still hope for County, though, as a second-placed finish and a cup win for United would be enough to see them into the Europa League.

They would also qualify, of course, were they to emerge successful in the cup clash at Hampden Park.
