Brentford boss Uwe Rosler can understand Rafa Benitez holding back Chelsea captain John Terry.

He was left out by Benitez for the 1-0 victory at Sparta Prague despite Terry declaring himself fit to start, with the Spanish boss claiming the situation is a "vicious cycle".

"Every manager has that," said former Manchester City striker Rosler. "It's natural that every player wants to play.

"I believe every manager selects the best possible starting XI, which gives him the best chance to get three points or get through to the next round.

"Sometimes decisions are hard to make and sometimes decisions will be unpopular. Sometimes decisions will be not totally understood by people involved.

"But in the end the manager gets paid for making crucial decisions. Of course I had players who felt they had to start and been fit enough to start, but for different reasons I came to a different conclusion."
