Seattle Sounders captain Mauro Rosales was delighted with his players after they managed to edge Columbus Crew 1-0 on the weekend.
The Sounders lost Leo Gonzalez to a red card in the 7th minute as well as key midfielder Brad Evans to a calf injury prior to the 20-minute mark but still came out on top thanks to Eddie Johnson's 15th minute goal.
After the game, midfielder Rosales spoke highly of his teammates for putting in such a courageous performance.
"We got something special today, the character we showed is something else," Rosales said during the postgame interview on the team's telecast.
"I'm proud of my boys. So proud of the guys to play with this heart."
And goalscorer Johnson was also thrilled with the manner in how the side won even though he admitted it was ugly.
"We just want to, as a team, enjoy this win. It wasn't the prettiest soccer, but we knew they were going to have chances," he said.
"I think we showed a lot of character and I think this team two months ago we lose this game, but we showed that when our backs are against the wall we're going to grind and try to get something out of the game."
