Rooney's day in court begins on Tuesday

A multi-million pound court hearing involving England striker Wayne Rooney and his wife Coleen begins on Tuesday. The couple are being sued by management company the James Grant Group (JGG) for loss of earnings. The case is listed for a three-week hearing.

The Manchester United star split from JGG in 2008 when his agent, Paul Stretford, left the company.

Mr Stretford set up a new company and took his two star clients with him.

On Sunday a spokesman for the couple said neither Proactive Sports Management nor JGG had worked for the Rooneys for 15 months.

A source close to Proactive Sports Management said on Monday: "The coverage in large parts of today's media over-simplifies the complex detail of this case.

"The commission monies claimed are for contracts concluded when Mr Paul Stretford was a paid employee of Proactive.

"The full detail of the case will be presented before the court in the coming days.

"Proactive is content for the court to make its own assessment about the merits of, and justification for, its claim."
