John Rooney is excited about his chance at New York Red Bulls. The kid brother of Manchester United star Wayne Rooney, John was selected by New York in this week's MLS Superdraft.
"I get asked about [being his brother]," said former Macclesfield Town striker Rooney, the 25th pick. "I'm so proud of what he's done. I wouldn't change being his brother for the world. But I'm my own person on the pitch.
"I'm coming here just trying to build on me own career.
"I just can't wait to get going. They picked me and I'm just going to the give them me all, show the coach that he made the right decision."
Red Bulls general manager Erik Soler also told the New York Post: "It can't be easy to have a big brother like that, with all the expectations.
"The fact that he [goes to the combine], brings his family here, sits and waits not being picked for 24 picks, that shows a bit about the kid. If things run a little bit in the family, it might be surprisingly good for everybody."
