Rooney on target as England grab a point in Poland

England have held on for a 1-1 draw in their World Cup qualifier against Poland in Warsaw this evening.

The match was originally scheduled for last night but had to be postponed due to torrential rain with a very heavy pitch the outcome today.

The Three Lions managed to take an undeserved lead through Wayne Rooney in the 31st minute when he shouldered home returning skipper Steven Gerrard's corner from close range.

Poland had the better of the chances and could have scored of a number of occasions but they did manage to level in the 70th minute when Kamil Glik glanced home Ludovic Obraniak's swinging corner.

Roy Hodgson's men then had to hold out for the final 20 minutes as the Poles came hard but in the end they managed to record a point which sees them retain top spot on the Group H table with eight points from four outings as Waldemar Fornalik's side sit third with five points from three fixtures.
