Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal feels Wayne Rooney is best suited as a midfielder at the present time.
The Red Devils skipper netted a double and provided an assist for Robin van Persie in the 3-1 win over Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Boxing Day and was superb in his midfield role which van Gaal suggests he may remain in for the foreseeable future.
"When you score two goals and you give the assist to the third goal, then you are happy as the manager. He is very happy also," van Gaal said.
"He has the lung capacity to run 90 minutes as a midfielder that's why I used him also like a midfielder.
"I can also use him as a striker. For the team at the moment, its better he plays in midfield."
