Wayne Rooney has no doubt Cristiano Ronaldo will now be backing Manchester United to win the Champions League this season.
When the Portuguese star headed for Real Madrid and most of that £80million fee was untouched, cynics were predicting the downfall of the Old Trafford dynasty.
It has been anything but. Rooney has already bagged 30 goals, is a shoo-in for just about every Player of the Year award, and has made a mockery of those expecting United to topple.
Instead, while the Reds whacked four past Milan in midweek, Real's Champions League dreams were shattered by Lyon.
Rooney knows the Galacticos' Euro exit has added another name to those wanting a new Euro crown for United.
He added: "I've spoken to him a few times and we wish each other good luck for the games.
"He'll be disappointed Real are out because he really loves this competition. But on the other hand I know he will be rooting for us to win it now."
