Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is pushing Louis van Gaal to buy Tottenham striker Harry Kane.
The Sun says United see Kane as the long-term successor to Rooney and have opened talks over a £40m deal.
And Rooney has waded in by putting the pressure on Van Gaal to get the 21-year-old to Old Trafford.
Rooney turns 30 in October and it's claimed United want an English icon to be the club's figurehead for the next 10 years.
Van Gaal had lined up Edinson Cavani and Gareth Bale but moves for the pair appear to be off.
