Rooney out of Man Utd's clash with Ajax

Wayne Rooney has been ruled out of the Manchester United team for this week's meeting with Ajax.

The Red Devils host the Dutch giants in the Europa League Round of 32 second leg tomorrow night but will be without the England striker who has a throat infection.

"Wayne is out tomorrow," said manager Sir Alex Ferguson. "He has a really bad throat.

"There were traces of it in Amsterdam and we gave him some medication but it got worse.

"He has been in bed over the weekend and came in today for the first time and we are trying hard to get him right for Sunday (Premier League clash with Norwich City)."
