Rooney to make Man Utd comeback in Dublin

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will make his playing return on Wednesday.

Rooney will play for the first time since England crashed out of the World Cup against Germany five weeks ago when Manchester United face an Irish League XI in Dublin on Wednesday.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed on Sunday that Rooney will be in the squad alongside Javier Hernandez, Michael Carrick, Nemanja Vidic and Ji-sung Park, while Antonio Valencia is also expected to return after an ankle injury.

"Rooney, Park, Carrick and Vidic are back in training and are doing well," said the United boss.

"Valencia is also training well and needs a game. All of them will be involved and Chicharito (Hernandez) will be part of the squad."
