Rooney likely to return for Man Utd on Sunday

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney looks set to return to the line-up for Sunday's clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

The league leaders take on fourth-placed Spurs at White Hart Lane on Sunday and should be boosted by the return of Rooney, who was rested for the 2-1 in over Stoke City last week.

Rooney hurt his troublesome ankle after scoring in the New Year's Day win over West Bromwich Albion and has since had intensive rehab to get himself up to scratch for the business end of the season.

United veteran Ryan Giggs said having Rooney back is a major boost to the rest of the squad.

"Hopefully, Wayne will be back for Sunday," he said. "He had a problem with his ankle but in his last game against West Brom he was man of the match.

"Unfortunately he picked up that injury but he's getting sharper and sharper, stronger and stronger, and hopefully he'll be back for Sunday."
