Rooney joins Galaxy 11 team to 'save Earth from alien domination'

Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney has been selected to feature in Samsung's new Galaxy 11 marketing campaign, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/. The 28-year-old joins the likes of Lionel Messi, Iker Casillas, Mario Götze and Radamel Falcao on a team of top football stars from around the world who will 'attempt to save Earth from alien domination in a "winner takes all" match on a virtual football pitch', according to a Samsung statement.

While the final line-up is set to be announced in the coming days, other players to have already been selected for the team include Chelsea's Brazilian playmaker Oscar, Nigerian international Victor Moses and AC Milan's Stephan El Shaarawy. German legend Franz Beckenbauer is the coach of the squad.

Galaxy 11 is a global, multi-platform marketing campaign that will feature across Samsung Galaxy devices, online platforms and social media channels.

Over the course of December, fans across the globe will be able to follow the Galaxy 11 team as they begin training for what Samsung marketers are dubbing 'Earth's ultimate showdown'.

"It's a great honour to be selected for the team alongside some of the world's greatest football players," Rooney said. "Hopefully I'll be able to bring my qualities and English spirit to the team and 2014 is going to be a huge year for me with club, country and now the Galaxy 11, so keep watching."
