Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney admits he should have let Juan Mata go after his hat-trick on Sunday.
The Spaniard scored both of United's goals in their eventual 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield before the visitors were awarded a penalty in injury-time.
Rooney stepped up to take the spot-kick, which was nicely saved by Red keeper Simon Mignolet, and he suggests perhaps Mata should had have been given the opportunity to complete his treble.
Very happy tonight. Fans were amazing. @juanmata8 great goals. Should of let him take penalty. And the United fan in the kop. Brilliant

Mata opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a neat right-footed finish beyond Mignolet from Ander Herrera's lovely through ball before doubling the advantage in fine fashion with a stunning side volley in the 59th minute prior to Daniel Sturridge's response 10 minutes later.
