Wayne Rooney says he is happy to play wherever Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal wants to play him.
The Red Devils captain scored a brace in Saturday's 2-0 win over ten-man Sunderland at Old Trafford when deployed in a more advanced role than he has experienced this season.
Rooney has often been sent out to play in the middle of the pitch under van Gaal but he has indicated that he is not worried about becoming a permanent midfielder because of his brilliant scoring record.
"I was obviously pleased that the manager played me up front and delighted to get the two goals," said Rooney.
"I've played there throughout my career so obviously I know how to play up front. I'm ready to play there if and when he wants me to do it.
"Everyone knows I've played midfield for the majority of the season but my record shows that I score goals so I'm not worried about that at all."
The brace took Rooney's Premier League total to 181 goals which has him within sight of former United star Andy Cole who is in second place on 189 behind all-time leader Alan Shearer who netted 260 during his glittering career.
