Rooney hoping new Man Utd record is broken

Wayne Rooney insists it would be great for Manchester United if his new scoring record is one day broken.

The 31-year-old overtook Sir Bobby Charlton to become United's all-time leading scorer with 250 goals on the weekend.

Asked if he can ever seen the new record being beaten, Rooney told MUTV: "You never know but I hope so because obviously I want Manchester United to do well in the future.

"In the years to come, and if someone's breaking that record, it means that someone has come in and had a good career and done well for Manchester United.

"I hope someone does but you never know in football."

Rooney also feels there is plenty more from him even after surpassing the mantle set by the heroic Charlton.

"Yeah, I do [feel that there is plenty left in the tank]. I'm only 31 and players now are playing for a lot longer," he added.

"I feel I'm ready to do that. I feel good, fresh, fit and I'm ready to continue playing.

"I appreciated Sir Bobby coming to see me after the game, as he does after every game. He's a huge figure and a legend at Manchester United.

"Myself and the other players really respect him and enjoy him coming in."
