Wayne Rooney hopes he we will be back on the pitch for Manchester United this weekend.

The 24-year old striker missed Wednesday night's successful Champions League trip to Valencia because of an ankle injury and early reports suggested he was to be out for up to three weeks.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson apparently wants Rooney to sort out his personal life so has given him that timeframe to get both body and mind right but the player plans to be at the Stadium of Light to take on Sunderland on Saturday and begin to work his way back into form.
