Rooney hat-trick saves Inverness winger from Butcher's ire

Inverness winger Jonny Hayes gave away a goal but then set up two for hat-trick hero Adam Rooney in the 4-2 home win over ten-man Hibernian. "I was just about to build a scaffold for him," joked Butcher, when quizzed on his thoughts following the error. "He was going to be hanged on Monday morning!

"But you don't have to say anything to him because he knows and he's got character.

"He bounced back really quickly and showed the character by coming back and setting up Adam Rooney."

Caley Thistle moved to fourth in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League table, while Rooney's second-half hat-trick, took his goal tally for the season to 13 in all competitions.

Referee Steve Conroy was left with no option but show Paul Hanlon the red card for handling the ball.

"It was a terrific game of football, I suppose, and good entertainment that's for sure, but we didn't play with any gusto really in the first half and how we start the game has got to be much, much better," said Hibs manager Colin Calderwood.

"We showed terrific spirit in the second half and that was the commendable side of it. I was really impressed with the way we got back in the game. I can't let the final score override the fact that the boys played with a lot of spirit."
