Rooney happy to have strike competition at Man Utd

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney feels it is important to have plenty of competition for places.

The England international is up against the likes of summer signing Robin van Persie, young gun Danny Welbeck and Mexican ace Javier Hernandez for a spot in Sir Alex Ferguson's first team but he has welcomed the challenge of getting a regular game for the Red Devils.

"There is a lot of competition up front, but that is great for the squad," said Rooney. "The manager will rotate when he feels it is necessary.

"There are a lot of games throughout the season. It means we can get a rest here and there to make sure we are ready for the big games towards the end."
