Wayne Rooney could agree terms over a new deal with Manchester United THIS WEEK.
The People says the England star's agent Paul Stretford has been summoned to contract talks with the champions' chief executive Ed Woodward - to be held within the next few days.
Until Saturday, no formal contact had taken place between United and Rooney's camp over a new deal for the 28-year-old forward, who has only 17 months left to run on his £225,000-a-week deal.
With growing interest in Rooney from Real Madrid and Chelsea, Woodward has decided to act.
News that talks are finally about to start with Rooney has delighted United chief David Moyes, who also clinched the signature of £37million record signing Juan Mata on Saturday.
