Rooney happy with deeper role for Man Utd

Wayne Rooney is happy with his deeper role for Manchester United this season.

Rooney could again be asked to play a deeper role if Javier Hernandez is given another chance to build on his match-winning performance against Aston Villa and Robin van Persie is picked for the ninth Barclays Premier League game in a row.

He told manutd.com: "I've always said I've no problem doing that [playing deep]. I think we've got the balance right now. We've got the squad of players and the forwards more importantly who can go and score goals. So we've got options up front and that gives the manager the option to play me deeper or play another forward as well. That's great for the team.

"Of course I want to score goals, but [the main aim is] to try and help the team win the game and be successful. Hopefully we can do that against QPR and get the Norwich result out of the way."
