Manchester United boss David Moyes will NOT consider Wayne Rooney for the Community Shield clash with Wigan Athletic. Rooney's fitness has been confirmed by England coach Roy Hodgson's selection, but he remains sidelined at United as he pushes to join Chelsea.
The Daily Star says he will be spared the wrath of his own fans when United meet the Latics hoping to win their first silverware of the new campaign. He will be left out of the squad as Moyes takes charge of his first competitive game since succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson.
Rooney is fuming at the deadlock as he tries to engineer a £30m move to Stamford Bridge.
But he was still keen to face the Latics in the first showpiece game of the season.
The striker has been training with the reserves at his own request.
He is determined to leave the champions, but has not even been informed of the squad's travel plans ahead of their trip to London.
