John Rooney has left New York Red Bulls to join USL Pro Division club Orlando City.

The 21-year old younger brother of Manchester United ace Wayne Rooney has dropped to the third division of soccer in the USA after failing to make an impact with the Red Bulls.

Liverpool-born Rooney will link up with former Everton star Adrian Heath who manages Orlando and he was delighted to welcome the reigning champion's latest addition.

"I've known John for a long time, from the early days in England. We're delighted to have him," he told the club's official website.

"He'll be a really good piece for us. He can play multiple positions in the midfield, which is a very good thing for us."
