Rooney came through Man Utd youth friendly: Bookies expect start

Wayne Rooney trained with Manchester United's youth team yesterday. The Mirror says Rooney warmed up for his imminent return tonight against Bayern Munich by going through a full-scale work-out after earlier joining United's youth-team squad on a bike ride around the grounds of their Carrington training complex yesterday.

Rooney then lined up in an eleven-a-side practice match once the cameras were out of sight. He showed no signs of any ill-effects on his injured ankle after the session, which featured a probable line-up for the second leg.

The England star, initially ruled out for two to three weeks with an ankle sprain, has made a rapid recovery and has left Fergie with a selection dilemma ahead of tonight's tie.

Such has been Rooney's recovery he has shed the plastic boot he was wearing to protect his right ankle, and he was able to drive himself to training yesterday.

Bookies William Hill certainly think Rooney will feature against Bayern - they make him 10-3 favourite to score first.
