Real Madrid star signing Cristiano Ronaldo will wear the No9 shirt next season.
With over 70,000 fans anticipated at his signing ceremony tomorrow night at the Santiago Bernabeu, Ronaldo is expected to be presented with the No9 shirt by honorary president Alfredo di Stefano.
Ronaldo will inherit the No9 shirt from Javier Saviola, who has left Real for Benfica. Interestingly, he had hoped for the No17 shirt he once wore at Sporting Lisbon, but that is currently held by former Manchester United teammate Ruud van Nistelrooy.
In any case, it makes good commercial sense for Ronaldo to accept the No9 shirt. His sister Elma runs two CR7 clothing boutiques in Portugal and she is due to open another in Madrid which will be named 'CR9'.
