Ronaldo key to Real Madrid giving Man Utd free run at Pogba signing

Cristiano Ronaldo was key to Manchester United re-signing Paul Pogba last year, it has been revealed.

United signed Pogba for a fee rising to a world record €100m from Juventus last summer.

The Frenchman was also on the radar of Real Madrid, where coach Zinedine Zidane remains a big fan of his countryman.

However, Ronaldo lobbied president Florentino Perez not to move for Pogba, says Diario Gol, as he felt his off-field behaviour would unsettle the locker room.

Ronaldo is unimpressed with Pogba's party antics and believed he'd be a poor influence on the Real squad.

The Portuguese is also no fan of Mino Raiola, Pogba's agent, and so successfully convinced Perez to not compete for the midfielder's signature when he became available last summer.
