Ronaldo: I want to be known as a Man Utd great

Manchester United's rich history is a key to Cristiano Ronaldo resisting the interest of Real Madrid.

"I want to be part of this club and its history," he said. "I want to stay here for more years because I love the club. You never know what can happen in the future, but I know that if I stay another five years, people will recognise me for the job I've done, for my goals, my personality.

"I don't know if you can compare this team with the team of 1958. All we can do is try to win trophies in our time.

"Some people say we have more talent, but we don't know how the boots, the pitches, the training was like then. I might have broken my toe taking free-kicks with the old ball, because it was very heavy. Or it might have helped to have a heavier ball.

"I see the way people talk about the old players. Of course, it would be nice to think that in 50 years people remember me and say: 'Cristiano, he was a great player.'

"Now I want to win the League and that is why it's important to win three points on Sunday. Arsenal are a great team and doing a fantastic job. I believe that Manchester United are better, but we need to show that on the pitch. Manchester City is another challenge and we need to win.

"There's a great chance to win the Treble again and we need to try our best. Manchester United have the opportunity to win everything, every season, and I think we have a chance now. Why not?"
