Ronie's brother and agent, Roberto de Assis, was in Barcelona yesterday to give an update to directors on his negotiations with AC Milan. Assis confirmed a five-year contract worth over £5 million-a-year was close to being finalised.

The agent also took time out to visit Barca sports director Txiki Begiristain. Assis wanted to raise the subject of Ronaldinho being given the chance to say goodbye to Nou Camp fans before the end of the season, with the May 11 clash against Real Mallorca put forward as a suitable date.

Begiristain was open to the suggestion and when he put it to the board, it received a positive response.
