Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu says they showed great spirit to defeat Sunderland on Saturday.

The Blues edged Sunderland 1-0 thanks to Frank Lampard's winner.

"It was very important to get the three points. It didn't matter the way to get the victory, the thing was to get the victory," said Romeu on chelseafc.com.

"We need to go on winning the games to get close to the teams on top of the league. We need to go step by step. Now the league is very difficult but you can never say the league is over, you have to fight to the end."
