Roma's Panucci backed to play until he's 40

The agent of Roma veteran fullback Christian Panucci says he can play on until he's 40.

At the age of 34, Panucci has hit the best form of his 16-year career, but he is still awaiting a new contract deal with Roma.

The former Milan star scored the goal to secure Italy's Euro 2008 qualification against Scotland and has enjoyed a purple patch since.

"We will see about a contract renewal, but there is no hurry," Damiani told Romanews.

"The club values Panucci very highly and he is very happy in Rome, so we will have to see what happens in the near future.

"In my opinion he can play until he is 40, just like Paolo Maldini and Alessandro Costacurta.

"At the moment no meeting with the club has been scheduled."
