AS Roma striker Mattia Destro was thrilled with his goal in Italy's 2-0 win over Malta.

Destro celebrated his debut senior Italy goal last night.

"It was hugely satisfying, especially as I was unable to score with the two chances I had in Bulgaria. I'm very happy," he said.

"Playing with certain teammates means you always feel that you can score at any moment and be given that opportunity.

"We played against a very defensive side that stayed solid at the back and it was difficult to penetrate their defences. We tried to keep possession and pass it around to find some space.

"I have to compliment Malta, who played a great game in terms of defence and made it difficult for us."
