Roma skipper Totti: Spalletti had to go

Roma captain Francesco Totti says Luciano Spalletti sacking was always going to happen.

The 33-year-old talisman was speaking to Roma's new official magazine when he decided to reopen his feud with Spalletti.

"He no longer managed to make himself understood to us, by then there were some problems with the group. His resignation was inevitable. Seeing the results obtained by Ranieri I would say that the change was worth it," Totti said.

Asked if some of Spalletti's comments hurt him, Totti replied: "I am touchy. They bothered me a little. He was one of those people who were convinced I really needed to be spurred on."

Totti revealed how four big clubs had recently made offers for him.

"I had four requests in recent times, one big Italian club and three foreign ones. They flattered me, but I will sign a new contract with Roma. We are only lacking a clause for after my playing career.

"Rosella and I speak three times a year to wish each other well. It's disgusting to support the idea that she has bought my support [for her presidency] with the new contract."
