Roma's CSKA loanee Doumbia still on Leicester radar as Ranieri eyes new striker

Leicester City are still pondering a move for Seydou Doumbia as manager Claudio Ranieri admits that he is currently on the lookout to sign a new striker.

Leicester have been touted to reinforce their attacking lineup in January and Roma striker Doumbia, who is back on loan with Russian club CSKA Moscow, has been mentioned as a target for the Foxes.

It now looks like league leaders Leicester will be ramping up their pursuit to sign Doumbia during the next week as Ranieri goes after back-up for Jamie Vardy, Leonardo Ulloa and Shinji Okazaki.

Ranieri said: "It's important to have - I need, I'd like to have - two players for every position now. I'd like another striker to give support to the other three, because our strength is playing at high intensity and it's not possible to play at high intensity for all the season, for this reason.

"Everyone is reinforcing or buying players because they want to save their season or they want to win something. We want to maintain our position. I know it's difficult but we must try.

"We must try for our respect for our fans and for our respect for this league. This is a strange league. The big teams are not at the top. There is Leicester. What happened? I don't know! But want to stay there."

Aside from Doumbia, Leicester are said to be chasing Sampdoria's Eder with Sky Sport Italia reporting that the East Midlands club had made a bid for his services on Sunday.
