Roma president James Pallotta has dismissed claims of Liverpool being in control of his club.

Pallotta has laughed off claims from Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis that the American shares ownership of Liverpool.

Boston-based Pallotta is friends with Liverpool 's principal owner John W Henry and has previously revealed how he bought the Reds owner lunch after believing Liverpool had "overpaid" for Salah last year.

Pallotta has moved to dismiss the claims of the Italian, by paraphrasing Henry's famous tweet when Arsenal offered £1 over what they believed was a £40m buyout clause for Luis Suarez in 2013.

Roma's official English account tweeted out a quote attributed to their American president on Friday that read: "Palotta: 'What do you think @ADeLaurentiis is smoking over there in Naples?

"If he finds that little bird again, he'll find out we also own Barca and Bayern'".
