Roma players blame Man Utd for tension

Roma have claimed Manchester United's players were the cause for much of the violence that occurred last season over their Champions League clash.

The Italian side fly into Manchester tonight for tomorrow's group game, just six months after crowd violence marred their two previous meetings.

Defender Christian Panucci said: "The first match generated so much controversy and United then profited from these circumstances by doing all they could to create a totally unjust atmosphere against us.

"United deserved to win, but some of their players abused this superiority. We see this as an opportunity to exact revenge. I have never suffered on the field like I did that day last season."
