Roma overcome Liverpool in St Louis

AS Roma have defeated Liverpool 2-1 in a pre-season friendly in St Louis.

Luciano Spalletti's Giallorossi were served by goals from former Premier League pair Edin Dzeko and Mohamed Salah while Liverpool's goal came through promising youngster Sheyi Ojo.

The opener at the Busch Stadium came just before the half-hour mark when Dzeko fired beyond Alex Manninger with his left foot from 20 yards before Ojo equalised just before half-time.

The Reds youngster was on hand to producing a diving header to see home Dejan Lovren's cross-goal glance from James Milner's deep corner but Liverpool are unable to hold onto the lead midway through the second half.

Salah made the most of a mix-up between Simon Mignolet and Andre Wisdom to force the ball home on 62 minutes.

It was a decent hit-out for both teams with Jurgen Klopp giving some valuable minutes to recent signing Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Dutchman was the only Reds player to avoid being substituted at half-time before he was replaced by Cameron Brannagan on 70 minutes.

Klopp started with Manninger in goal behind a defence of Nathaniel Clyne, Lovren, Ragnar Klavan and Milner while Emre Can, Wijnaldum, Roberto Firmino, Ojo, Sadio Mane and Daniel Sturridge made up the midfield and attack.

There were 10 changes made at the break and a further two as Klopp gave minutes to plenty of his players ahead of Saturday's meeting with Barcelona at Wembley.
