Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman was delighted to make his comeback with Holland yesterday.

Strootman felt “good" after his first Netherlands start in over two years.

He played 70 minutes in the 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland, a friendly played in Dublin last night.

“It was great being back with my national team, though obviously I'd have been happier if we had won and played well," Strootman told Dutch TV.

“We trained well in the retreat in Portugal, trying out various tactics, but we didn't really put them into practice. We only allowed Ireland to trouble us on set plays, but at the same time created very little too.

“I feel good. I would've liked to play the whole game, but my club would've been angry about that…

“In any case, we have another two games and more training sessions."
