Roma management admit battle to secure De Rossi to new deal

AS Roma admit they're struggling to secure Daniele de Rossi to a new contract.

His current deal expires at the end of the season, so the 'future captain' could well leave on a free transfer if the matter is not resolved.

"De Rossi is right to say all players want to earn more and it is also the duty of every club to contain costs, even for an important figure like Daniele," said general manager Claudio Fenucci.

"Let us not forget that the costs currently outweigh our income by €40m, which includes the price of buying Marco Borriello outright from Milan.

"There are no meetings planned for the moment, but I am sure we will resolve the issue. All parties here want to sort this out as soon as possible."

Having seen Juventus unveil their state of the art new arena last night, a new stadium is among the plans for Roma.

"We don't have a project ready right now, because if the law on stadiums does not change soon, we couldn't get anything done. Building our own stadium is one of the club's objectives, as it's just too important in economic terms."
